An awards ceremony for guests and broadcast, staged in the ballroom of the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental in Abu Dhabi — with TV cameras shooting 270° around the stage and a 32 m wide LED floor built as a playing field, running seamlessly into the main LED screen.
There was no space for manual followspots, and the MCs had to stay lit on the constantly changing content of the LED floor. Two Lumatrack devices worked together from the sides to cover the whole 32 m stage.
The tracked fixtures were Ayrton Rivale Profiles — the same units serving as broadcast key light for the room. One crossfader between the marked MC position and the tracked values helped a lot, and saved me from calls from the OB van. The presenters crossed the LED pitch keyed by tracked Rivales, floor content vivid underneath, with no spill around them.
